LAND'S END - JOHN O'GROATS

GEORGE'S LEJOG PROGRESS : FINISHED!! 8pm 9th June 2007

On 2nd June 2007, George Flanagan of Newton near Preston, started to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats, commonly known as 'LEJOG'.  His journey covered 944 miles and was done over a period of eight days, so you do the maths.... yep, an average of 118 miles a day. This website serves as a record of each day, and hopefully provides tips and ideas to any cyclists out there who wish to try the journey for themselves.

George was joined and supported by his wife Val, and his daughter Helen.  Although the girls weren't cycling with him, they were following the same route as George in the support car, carrying spares and provisions, updating this website, and finding suitable places for those all important (yet quite infrequent) rest stops!

By doing the cycle ride, George raised money through sponsorship for St. Catherine's Hospice in Preston. The hospice provides palliative care to people in Chorley, Preston and South Ribble and is largely dependant on funding from the local community.  To find out more about St Catherine's Hospice click here to visit their website.

Thanks to all those who have supported George and his cycle ride, we had a pleasing amount of sponsorship and encouraging words.  We have tried to acknowledge all of you individually on our Thanks page. . .
